Reading Theories

Tonight Cosette was reading to me. She was struggling with a few words. It happens, but Dwight had a theory about it.

Dwight: "Mom, she doesn't like to read this story because there aren't any colored pictures in it.

Then he leaned over to Cosette and said,"Cosette, if you don't learn to like black and white pictures, you're going to hate first grade.

A beautiful lighthouse-this was a good work out. We climbed A LOT of steps to get to the top.

I don't think this will be a picture for our Christmas card. It was hot and sunny and humid and Missouri. Do I need to say more? :)

*On our way home from Missouri, we took a small detour up through Hannibal, MO. It was nice to stop for a bit and walk around this touristy town. I love Mark Twain. I love Mark Twain's books. I loved The Adventures of Tom Sawyer when we had to read it in the 4th grade. I loved Pudd'nHead Wilson when Dr. Zwick made me read it for Modern Novel class. It was a delightful stop on our long way back to Billings.

Christmas in July

We celebrated Christmas in July by having a Candy Cane Hunt. Thanks Aunt Stacy!

Yep, it was hot!

AJ came busting out of a big log tunnel with a mouth full of pretzels. I love this picture.

I made the kids take one photo before we started seeing the animals. It worked. They actually look happy, don't they?

The St. Louis Zoo is a great family outing. It's free! (And that makes it even better) Although, I suggest going there in the spring or fall. When it's hot and humid, the animals don't want to come out and play.
