"Because I Said So"

Wednesday, September 30, 2009
Today when I picked Dwight up from school, he was wearing a sticky note that said in his handwriting "PLEASE TAKE ME HOME". I guess he was worried that I would forget about him.

AJ grabbed our wedding album the other day and was intently looking at all the pictures. "Mom, there's my dad but I don't know who that lady is" he said as he pointed to me. Oh well . . .

Tonsils and Adenoids are so overrated

Dwight saw the ENT DR this week. It was actually a quick exam and a quick decision. Dwight has had a "mammoth" right tonsil since he was about two years old. So, on October 20th, Dwight will have surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids. He's not excited. I'm not excited. Hopefully this surgery will alleviate some of his severe asthma symptoms and eventually get him off the many medications he is on right now.

From trikes to bikes . . .

Things that make you go hmmmm . . .

AJ: "Mom, Dwight called me a fat head."
Dwight:"I didn't mean it literally."

Doctors

Dwight has had 2 doctor appointments since the beginning of the school year. Doctor Number 1 was a well check-up. From that appointment, we were sent to Doctor Number 2-a pulmonary pediatric specialist.
We're trying to get a handle on Dwight's asthma. Since asthma is a chronic disease (doctor number 2 reminded me of this more than once), we have to handle it that way. What does this mean? For Dwight it means more meds, more monitoring and . . . oh yeah, more doctor appointments. Next week, we're off to doctor number 3-the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. According to Doctor Number 2, not only does Dwight have bad asthma, "His right tonsil is "mammoth!" AND "I don't think this kid has ever breathed through his nose in his entire life." AND "Just look at his long face and bags under his eyes. He's your classic allergy/asthma child." AND-do you know what else doctors are really good at besides diagnosing your almost 8 year old son? They are really good at making moms feel really guilty.

Radium Girls

The Radium Girls were a group of female factory workers who contracted radiation poisoning from painting watch dials with glow-in-the-dark paint at the United States Radium factory in Orange, New Jersey around 1917. The women, who had been told the paint was harmless, ingested deadly amounts of radium by licking their paintbrushes to sharpen them; some also painted their fingernails with the glowing substance.

Grace found out today that she is playing the part of Irene Rudolph in this play. We are really excited for Grace. She loves to act and this part looks like a good one for her. Rehearsals start tomorrow and opening night is October 29th. Break a leg Gracie!

Words of Wisdom from AJ

"I need to brush my teeth. If I don't brush my teeth then all my teeth will disappear."

"If I don't have a gumball, then my legs will ache at bedtime."

"I can't eat those healthy things. They are too spicy."

"Dad said I can have candy for supper. It's good."

"I love Sunday School. I love donuts and play-doh more."

Don't worry . . .

Dwight takes after me. He is a worrier. While travelling this past weekend, we were in our hotel room discussing worry. The short version was "God tells us not to do it. He promises to take care of us so that we can rest assured that His will is done, etc." Cosette was listening intently to our entire conversation. Once I was finished, I said aloud, "Now where did I put my purse?" To which Cosette replied, "I don't know where it is and God doesn't want me to worry about it."
