Gregg had a church meeting tonight in our garage. (If you know him, this doesn't sound odd.) He was running late from another meeting (If you know him, this doesn't sound odd either) so I asked AJ to politely tell our Pastor (who was waiting in our garage) that Gregg would be five minutes late.
When AJ came back in the house, I asked him to tell me what he said to Pastor.
AJ: Pastor, Gregg is going to be 5 minutes late.
ME: Gregg?
AJ: Mom, I really don't think Pastor would have known who I was talking about if I would have said my dad is going to be 5 minutes late.

Kindergarten Randomness
On August 27th, I began teaching Kindergarten part-time for our little LCMS Classical school. I haven't taught on a daily basis in a very long time. Lots of things have changed since I've been in the classroom. Lots of things haven't.
Some Kindergarten Randomness:
1) AJ is in my class. So far, so good. He really is a crapshoot. I love hearing him call me Mrs. Hein. I'm not sure he loves it as much as I do.
2) When did classroom behavior get so out of control? I was NOT prepared to be handed a child on the second day of school with the phrase "He's a runner. Got to go." Yep, he's a runner, and a kicker and a screamer. Someone forgot to mention that part.
3) Today while explaining the word SHIP to AJ, one of my students YELLED across the room, "My mom won't let us say SHIT in our house. That's a bad word, Mrs. Hein." But I didn't say ... Oh never mind. Note to self-email that parent so she doesn't think I randomly cuss in the classroom.
4) Kindergartners really are little sponges. Teaching Latin to them is so much fun. They beam with pride when I greet them with "Salve Discipuli" and they respond "Salve Magistra."
5) It doesn't matter what kind of day I'm having-whether challenging or exciting, nothing brings a bigger smile to my face then being followed down the hallway by one of my students who says (daily) to me, "Do you know how very much I love you?"
